rising concern dan shake has achieved what no other has in over a decade: with his debut release in the music world, he has become the very first producer without a detroit heritage or residency to land a release on moodymanns prestigious record label mahogani music. based in london, the former leeds student secured the feat in a charmingly anachronistic fashion: having just watched kenny dixon jr perform alongside the 3 chairs at dimensions festival, dan simply handed over a demo cd with a collection of unreleased tracks. moodymann was hooked almost instantantly, taking the first plunge on welcoming an outsider into his tight-knit crew of detroit strong artists. citing influence from the layered percussive rhythms of afrobeat pioneers such as tony allen and fela kuti, the soul-drenched sampling of j dilla and the kind of dark, dense grooves laid out by contemporary producers such as flying lotus and motor city drum ensemble, dans situation in winding up on a label renowned for encompassing all those traits is obviously a blessing for the young producer.

we’re really excited about this unusual ep from the unusually talented photomachine, his first outing on wicked bass. ‘black motorcycle’ a dark but deep number, measuredly working its way down into to a solid groove before it lifts its eyes skyward for a breakdown made up of delicate synthwork. ‘good news…bad dope’ is a more skittish cut, with its percussive elements laying low in the mix, whilst circling synths provide a menacing mood that juxtaposes itself with a well-placed vocal sample.

label-resident stefan vincent drops his first vinyl for dynamic reflection. and what an ep elephants foot is three mesmerizing originals and an outstanding linzatti remix on top. stefans shedding his upcoming status more and more and turning himself into an artist to watch. this ep is another solid step in that direction.

second release from wildheart recordings - theo parrishs new london-based label. epic, spiritualised jazz-funk from the los angeleno — collaborator of gifted and blessed — astutely revived by theo parrish. dego and akwasi mensah wig out with tp on the fuel-injected, flip-side overhaul, propelling the tune left of mo wax and into the light.

cottam is proud to present the first release on his new label, ruff draft. paul cottam came to wider attention with a series of limited edition blank-label 12s released from 2009 onwards, showcasing his production talents by re-working afro-beat, neo-soul, funk & hip-hop into deep house burners, but ruff draft is all about original tracks, and the first release sees three tracks from the man himself.

i-boat captain returns to iib with a real gem of a tune. major spam is a chugging nu kraut dub disco bomb. driving drums and relentless bassline wrapped up in swirling synths and delayed vocals. almunia beef up the tempo and the kick, adding their trademark guitar melodies. tiedye turn major spam into an big piano balearic house monster ready for some hands in the air moments. finally on the remix our friends up north last waltz create a beautiful lush disco synth chug out. the extra track on the b side poly punk is a slo mo acid treat. squelching 303 underneath a delayed picked guitar and a soaring pad. balearic acid dub style.

graze minerals possess a superlative lustre, which is most notably seen in diamond. such frequencies are transparent or translucent in nature, and have a high refractive index. tones with a true adamantine lustre are uncommon, with examples being cerussite and zircon. mweapon minerals display luminous bass bands, which appear to move as the specimen is rotated. such frequencies are composed of parallel fibers, which reflect sound into a direction perpendicular to their orientation, thus forming narrow bands of light. the most famous examples are fm and subtractive, but the effect may also occur in other sound banding - such aquamarine, moonstone and tourmaline. scrap minerals consist of thin transparent co-planar sheets. light reflecting from these layers give them a lustre reminiscent of pearls. such minerals possess perfect cleavage, with examples including muscovite and moss opal.

oberman knocks original version (white) is a laid-back affair housed within a glassy place of worship, echoing with monastic vocals, strings, wind instruments and field recordings, which are offset by synthetic beats, funk bass and entwined sleazy vocals.
in contrast autechres remix (black), panning out at just over 17 minutes long, is everything that you wouldd expect from the duo – a frantic, fractured and detailed to within an inch of its life piece, that has no need to build, but instead unravels and mutates into what is an unmistakable autechre crescendo.
whilst both versions play out at opposite ends of the tempo spectrum, what connects them is that they are both emotional machine music with guts and vigour.

sun ep is the first release from label founder and cocoon artist julien bracht on his own label. the 2-track ep radiates a sense of confidence and motivation into a composition wherein the sound is expressed by the combination of melodic and hypnotic sounds, combined and inspired by the hardness of his break/techno beats.

fontarrians debut effort for berlin-based label antime offers a glimpse into a fragile yet eclectic spectrum consisting of loopy vocal bits, slowly unwinding washes of dream like ambience, distinctively (s)tumbling almost jazzy percussions and an ever-present, blissful warmth. the latter emanates from and sucks you into what seems to be a world of its own. like a lo-fi attempt at capturing momentary twists of the heart through 10 significantly diverse tracks - imperfect nonetheless - the album feels like a mixtape you ve set out to record for someone special, but somehow never got around to.

after the sensation caused by its last release, life and death comes back strong with another battle cry into the darkness. with a prized new member of the family, vaal, joining forces with a life and death mainstay, tale of us, the stage is set for another epic ep from the forward thinking label

quick-firing into the new year, doc daneekas ten thousand yen returns with the absolute dance heat that is bodhi, *i need you e.p.*. the pair rose to prominence over the last two years with deft mixes for people like the xx & sampha and london grammer. releasing original material via channels like grizzly and australias future classic, bodhi join forces with their welsh compatriots at ten thousand yen for these collection of rough and ready, yet soul burning dance floor bombs. these have been doing serious business in the clubs. i need you!

the label bond is the brainchild of swedish techno dj and producer petter b. the concept of the label is music by djs for djs. the label focuses on releasing tracks that enable the dj, rather than the producer, to be creative. it is based on that special bond which is created every time a dj combines tracks, loops and sounds live into something new and unique.

winter is almost over but for the uy080 we decided to dip our label paint-brush deep into a potty filled with white. the painter is called ruede hagelstein and his work of art is simply called minus. a track with the charm of a winter-landscape, fully accomplished, crystal clear and warming like an analogue heater. wearing almost nothing and casted into a snow-white plate it will be a pleasure for all vinyl collectors.

concealed sounds return with a new 12 for 2014. this time around we have invited our friends from mysteries sylphe label to remix the title track by martinez, and they delivered a monster! on the a side we find >consolidation (sylphe lydlos dub)<, were we are taken a true journey thru sound and rhythms for about 13 minutes. the remix kicks off in a kind of tracky way, with a strong focus on the irresistible groove laid down by holdie gawn & micawber. after the first small breaks and manipulations to the groove, we are introduced to some very trippy modular sound design. these sounds takes the lead of the remix and forms into small melodies in a very organic way. while you can still sense the ingredient from the original track, sylphe takes a slightly different directions and offers a good opposite to the original with their own special twist. the original version of >consolidations< is presented on the b side of this 12. its a dirty groove ridden track that goes on for well over 10 minutes, developing from a broken groove into a more danceable techno pieces, with its shattering metallic sounds, bubbly baselines, deep layers of sub rhythms and lush pad chords to give it some more atmosphere. two very different version of modern instalment in techno music. we hope you enjoy it as much as we do… and as always there is a special hidden track on this 12.

with the second release of the new year, culprit delves deeper into the nocturnal, melodic side of its sound by presenting balcazar & sordo, dance spirit + discern with calling for you featuring shawni. following the template set by the title track from adriatiques midnight walking ep that opened 2014 for the label, the calling for you single is another lush piece of pulsating electronic house. the artists behind it are truly a global creative collective that connects culprits home base of los angeles with london, guadalajara (mexico), and berlin.

jbla came into being after julian jöckel (midnightopera) and stuart argabright (ike yard, black rain, o13) performed at a party in brussels on the 5th of oct. 2012 on invitation from bernardo risquez & michael langeder (different fountains). they all had met for the first time the year before through michael kreitz from meakusma when different fountains & o13 played concerts in eupen. after staying at different fountains studio the day after the brussels event they set up a rather improvised jam session. julian played synth on a yamaha dx7, bernardo worked the low frequencies on an old eminent organ while michael contributed machine sounds and took care of the live fx engineering. stuart put together some words and brought a beat to the occasion of the jam session at the df studio. during the short euro tour with ike yard, l.i.e.s label head ron morelli and artist svengalisghost came to the paris show and were talking with stuart about the streetwalkers of belleville, specifically the sad chinese hookers out on the street. combined with news about recent foxxconn workers suicides in china and witnessing altercations close to the air bnb where he stayed. the belleville ep are two cuts from that session with remixes from ron morelli + svengalisghost and vereker, pressed on translucent vinyl.

an imaginary country continues from the trajectory of tim heckers last album, the critically acclaimed harmony in ultraviolet, while also showing a few new tricks. tim has incorporated more pulses into this work and also works with a sound pallete including overdriven mellotron strings and synthesizer. at times this album is less overtly aggressive than previous works, but the notion that this is pastoral work would be dead wrong as there are plenty of the agitated crescendos that he is know for. this music backs off from the void of immensity in favor of a terrain of lushness and warmth.

luca lozano, owner of klasse recordings presents this majestic 4-track ep on optimo trax. inspired by the past but sounding the antithesis of retro. in his own words.... the optimo trax ep was born out of a time when i was listening to a lot of old bleep house and rave, early 90s uk stuff. growing up in sheffield i was lucky enough to spend some time in warp records when it was still a record store and being around this music and the people that made it must have somehow embedded itself into my psyche. listening to pirate radio stations like fantasy fm as a teenager helped shape my musical interests as they are today and i guess this ep is somehow a reflection of that education, i wanted to make a collection of music that sounded like it was related to a certain place and time and in effect confirm my own identity within its context.

yellow is the new black! bright and shiny comes the new ep black harder by south german guy chris milla over the hump. after a smooth wobbling enter into the track, its the majestic sounding melody, which sweeps around you and smells like an early spring messenger.

somewhere along the line the true spirit of the ku was lost in a sea of buddha bar pish and the anaemic meanderings of anyone with a nine bar and a spanish guitar. thankfully, nado uncork their bottle of vintage san rafael dust and sprinkle it liberally over their seventh release to put the sun and fun back into the balearic discotheque. and who better to call upon for authentic 80s oddities than the irrepressible brenda ray, who has plunged into the naffi hq archive and plucked out four vivacious (& previously unreleased) gems, wholly deserving the full light of day.

re-issue of the 1979 album by german bassist hans peter ströer.

berliners dirk leyers and nomad expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma: the use of a roland tr-808 analog drum machine in every single track. they programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks, fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by its own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it: africaine 808 - their third and first female band member. in the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite african and island funk tunes, transforming the old gold into modern dj and dancefloor friendly tunes. the sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion. the trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house. in spring 2012 they first took the project to another level, turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the vulkandance nights in berlin. today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, drummers, percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio. 100% sonic voodoo golf channel every time!

lakker: we are delighted to be releasing on r&s. it is one of those labels that has been huge in electronic music for years - anyone who is into modern electronic music will have a few r&s records in their collection. ourselves included - classics from joey beltram and afx up to the recent tessela stuff. it is all in our bag!

the deepblak chief alchemist kicks of 2014 with his first ep since relocating to berlin, and reflects the different modes of the dancefloor experience as filtered thru aybees metronome. driving, atmospheric, and at times euphoric aybee melds these narratives into an ep that carries the emotional colors of an album. 22 meters also sees the vinyl release of akiara a long standing deepblak favorite from the blaktropolis 2 comp.

tennessee techno: alex falk brings the sound in purified form. his approach has already piqued the interest of many influential djs and producers, and the track *ptr* from his debut ep on proper trax is among the selections included on hessle audio co-founder pangaeas fabriclive 73 mix. falks previous releases have focused on punishing, pulsing, synthetic techno. for his cgi ep, we are treated to another side of falks sound as he allows a bit more house into the mix. limited to 400 copies.

sydneys dancefloor sanctuary templar sound reigns in a new year of club music with atlantas own dj vague (another sound and strand from the producer helix), who constructs a 3-track highway soundtrack of muscular, drive-loop techno with porsche trax – ricocheting teasing bass figures, blown-out synths, and the darker hues of house into an 18-minute flare of euphoria.
